Work Experience:

Apr ‘08 to present, William Hill - Software Developer
At William Hill I developed the system which would integrate the WH bonus payment system and the new acquired Orbis OpenBet back office. This involved me gathering requirements from 3rd parties, designing and developing a highly available, scalable system. I created a J2EE solution deployed to BEA WebLogic 9 cluster, using JMS. The system is live and all parties and happy with functionality and performance.

I have also been heavily involved in the team’s transition from using Ant build script to the Maven2 project model.
Aug ‘06 to Apr ‘08, William Hill - Build & Deployment Engineer

As a build engineer I was responsible for delivering the development artefacts in a consistent way to our various test and production environments. We did this by creating WLST scripts to interact with BEA WebLogic.

I was also asked to manage our change management tool BladeLogic. WH used BladeLogic to patch their server estate and administer configuration changes.

Mar ‘05 - Sep ‘05, Wanadoo UK - Technology Research
Wanadoo was a multinational ISP which has now merged its operations with Orange. Here I was part of a small team researching emerging internet technologies. I created prototypes for the team in various programming languages such as Java, C++ and PHP. These prototypes were shown to internal Wanadoo teams as well as external bodies.

Jul ‘04 - Mar ‘05, The Phoenix Partnership - Support Analyst
Phoenix develops clinical systems for the NHS. My roles varied from technical analysis to first line application support. The company always pushed the support analyst role to identify the reason for the customer having the problem and to feedback the information to its developers, over time this proved itself as a fantastic process as the small support team handled a large customer base.

At times we analysed JVM thread dumps generated on the customer’s rich client and sniffed their local networks for reasons why our application was under performing.

Me:
I enjoy the problem solving challenges which programming gives me; I strive to create the best systems I can. This could be creating highly available web services or, efficient data analysis tools.
I’m not fazed by learning new technologies; instead I enjoy learning about new systems and software.

I am very interested in the open source movement and I am currently trying to become involved with the Grails project.

I have always enjoyed the work I have done for the companies I have been with, and I think this shows itself in the references I am able to offer on this document, I’m sure that each person will give a fair statement on my work for them.

Outside of work I enjoy going to see live music of all types. I play badminton and go to the gym regularly.
